Mixed media encaustic wall panels by Mary Meyer
Mirror Trees | mixed media encaustic with stitching | 10 x 10 x 2 inches each

The works in Mirror trees feature images of trees and branches photographed at the site of the 2002 Missionary Ridge Wildfire in Southwestern Colorado. I was drawn to the stark beauty of the charred pines and their very human, skeletal qualities. The works are comprised of pigment prints with graphite drawing on hand cut paper, dipped in beeswax, stitched with thread, then mounted on panel. A sewing needle is stitched into each piece, and serves as a backbone that divides the image.
