mirror trees

mixed media on panel
10 x 10 x 2 inches each
The works in Mirror Trees feature pigment prints of trees and branches photographed at the site of the 2002 Missionary Ridge wildfire in Southwestern Colorado. I was drawn to the stark beauty of the charred pines and their very human, skeletal qualities. The finished pieces are comprised of prints and graphite drawings on hand cut paper dipped in beeswax, stitched with thread, then mounted on wood. A sewing needle is also stitched into each piece, and serves as the backbone that divides the image.
